$25,000 Community Club Grants Awarded

Representatives from five local non-profit organizations gathered for lunch on May 22, 2007 to be honored at Mission Community Bank’s second annual Community Club grants event. Each of these organizations was presented with $5,000 grant checks from the bank, and will use the funds as briefly described here:

  • The Children’s Health Initiative of San Luis Obispo County - the Community Club grant will support the SLO Healthy Kids program, which provides comprehensive medical, vision and dental care for children of low-income families.  To learn more, visit www.SLOhealthykids.org

  • Habitat for Humanity for San Luis Obispo County – grant funds will support a Volunteer Coordinator who will recruit and organize volunteers working on Habitat’s home build project in Atascadero and at the non-profit’s ReStores in Templeton and South County.  More information can be found at www.hfhsloco.org

  • Friends of Hapitok – the grant will support the summer camp program serving special needs children with communication disorders, to help them develop confidence, make friends and learn skills for social and academic success.  For more information, visit www.CampHapitok.org

  • Senior Nutrition Program of San Luis Obispo County – funds will be used to help finance the ongoing program to deliver hot, nutritious noontime meals to homebound senior citizens throughout San Luis Obispo County.  Visit www.GoldenMeals.org for more information.

  • San Luis Obispo County Child Abuse Prevention Council – Community Club funding will be used to expand the Teaching About Touching educational sessions to special needs children and 2nd grade students, and add abduction resistance education presentations.  Their web site is www.slocap.org

In 2005, Mission Community Bank developed Community Club, a package of very attractive free checking and premium interest rate financial services for businesses and individuals, and committed to awarding grants of $5,000 to each of five non-profit organizations funded from the bank’s profits. The more Community Club checking, savings and certificates of deposit accounts opened, the larger the grants will be in future years.

Dozens of non-profits submitted Community Club grant applications in 2006. Congratulations to the Community Club grant recipients. Thank you for the great work you do throughout the Central Coast!
